An overview of tourist, business, and student visas.

Tourist Standard Visitor

Whether you’re travelling for leisure and tourism, for business purposes, or to study abroad, you are classed as a ‘Standard Visitor’ and can apply for a Tourist Standard Visitor visa. This will let you stay in the UK for up to 6 months (if you’re a student, you just need to make sure you choose a 6-month course). 

Marriage Standard Visitor

If you want to get married or register a civil partnership in the UK, you might need to apply for a Marriage Visitor visa. It lets travellers stay in the UK for up to 6 months. 

Transit Standard Visitor

If you’re travelling through the UK on your way to another country, you might need a transit visa. It could be that you have a layover in the UK between flights, for example.
