Student Visa

Student Visa

What supporting documents will I need?

Make sure you have the following documents ready before applying for a German student visa, so the process is as smooth as possible.

  • Two national visa forms, filled out and signed.
  • A valid passport, along with two photocopies.
  • Your birth certificate.
  • Your marriage certificate (if you’re married).
  • Your child’s certificate (if you have children).
  • Two biometric portrait photographs of yourself - just make sure they were taken recently and are still accurate.
  • If you’ve been to Germany before, you’ll need photocopies of any previous German residence titles.
  • Any previous Schengen Visas and Resident Permits.
  • Proof that you have enough money to support yourself during your studies, as outlined here.
  • Your CV (you might also see this called curriculum vitae).
  • Proof that you’ve been accepted to study at one of the official universities in Germany.
  • A letter explaining your future plans and why you’ve chosen your degree programme.
  • Travel health insurance, which should cover you from your departure to the date of enrolment at the German university. It should usually be about 3 months.
  • Proof you have paid the student visa application fee.
  • Proof of German language proficiency if you’ll be doing a German or mixed-language programme.
  • Proof of English language skill level if you’ll be doing an English or mixed-language programme.

You might be asked for additional documents or to verify your certificates. You’ll be contacted by the German Embassies and Consulates if this is something you’ll need to do.
