What documents do I need to apply for a transit visa?

Whichever transit visa you’re applying for, there are some important documents you’ll need, including a valid passport or travel document. When you travel through the UK, don’t forget to bring your visa and documents with you.

You might be asked to show that your onward journey is booked or confirmed. To do this, you can use:

  • a flight booking email
  • a ticket or boarding pass - it can be printed or on your phone
  • confirmation from a travel agent
Not a national of the country you’re travelling to?

In this case, you might also need to show that you’re allowed to enter that country. You could use a:

  • residence permit
  • green card
  • valid visa

You could be asked to explain why you’re travelling if you’re not a resident or national and for details of where you’re staying, so remember to have this information available to hand in.
