Who can apply for a German Employment Visa?

You could apply for a residence permit to work in Germany without a visa if you’re from one of the following countries:

  • EEA/EU member states the United States of America
  • Australia
  • Canada
  • Israel
  • Japan
  • New Zealand
  • Switzerland
  • The Republic of Korea

Please note, if you’re hoping to begin working straight away, as soon as you arrive in Germany, you’ll need to apply for a work permit at an embassy before travelling.

Otherwise, you’ll need to wait for your residence permit application to be approved, even if you are already in Germany.

However, some German Aliens’ Authorities (Ausländerbehörde offices) could ask you for a visa even if you are from one of the above countries. So, it’s a good idea to check if you need to apply for a visa by reaching out to your closest German embassy or consulate.
