How long will I be able to stay in the UK for?
As an academic, applying for a Standard Visitor visa, you’re allowed to stay in the UK for up to 6 months. But, there are certain circumstances that mean you’re able to stay longer:
- you can stay for up to 11 months if you’re travelling to the UK for private medical treatment
- if you’re an academic looking to visit the UK for research purposes, you and your partner could stay for up to 12 months
Please note, there is an extra fee of £200, as well as the requirement for a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP). This is simply an ID card that holds your name, date and place of birth. If you need to apply for this, remember to have your photo taken and your fingerprint scanned.
