What documents do I need to apply for a visa?

When putting together the documents for your business visa application, remember to provide certified translations if they’re not already in English or Welsh.

The rules on what you’ll need to enter the UK may be different if you’re travelling from Ireland, Jersey, Guernsey or the Isle of Man.

If you’re visiting the UK from any of the countries listed here, you’ll need to get tested for tuberculosis (TB). You’ll then be given a certificate to include with your visa application.

Visiting the UK as an academic?

There are a few extra documents you’ll need to show that you meet the eligibility requirements. You could provide a letter from:

  • your employer outlining the dates of your sabbatical or exchange
  • your employer outlining the research to be undertaken
  • the UK host organisation confirming the arrangements for your research, exchange, or clinical practice

If you’ll be researching certain subjects at postgraduate level or above, you might need to get an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificate before you can start your research.
